The accumulation of wealth remains increasingly concentrated in the hands of a few, while the costs of extractive impacts are externalized without even being accounted for. A forest, providing numerous environmental services, does not appear as an asset on any company’s balance sheet, having value only after being extracted and transformed into processed wood. In other words, our extractive model is leading us to collapse.
Governance and policy must catch up with the advances in technology and science that have transformed our lives. It is time for a new model of government, where politicians are held accountable by objective indicators and evaluated on their ability to solve problems and achieve measurable goals.
We need to eliminate unnecessary bureaucracy, harness the power of artificial intelligence for decision-making, and ensure transparency in information and accountability.
In a Protopian future, laws will be evaluated based on their economic, social, and environmental impacts by multidisciplinary teams aided by artificial intelligence.
